How to get there?

There is no international airport  in La Gomera. Normally you use the airport of Tenerife South and then you have a 30 minute drive to the ferry terminal of Los Christianos. The boat will take you in an hour to San Sebastian de la Gomera.

  • Car: rent a car online with Cicar (allows for up to three drivers and they do not charge extra) at the airport or in the Port of San Sebastian de la Gomera. Fill the tank as there is no petrol station in Alojera.Playa de Alojera is a little over an hour drive from the ferry port of San Sebastian de la Gomera . The landscape is astonishing along the way. Try to avoid driving or arriving after sunset, especially in bad weather conditions.
  • There is a small local airport in the south of La Gomera (Alajeró). With Binter Canarias you have connections to other Canary Islands such as Tenerife and Las Palmas.

Food and supplies

It’s best to do your shopping in advance at Tu Trébol in San Sebastián.

On the small square in the center of the village of Alojera, there is a bar with a small shop, “Bar La Plaza”. You can usually also get something to eat there. It’s about a 30-minute walk from the beach (there is a footpath uphill that you can find on MAPS.ME or KOMOOT). By car, it takes about 8 minutes to drive up.

For larger shopping needs, you’ll need to go to the supermarket in Vallehermoso or Valle Gran Rey.

Don’t forget to buy water, as tap water has a poor taste.

There is a regular coffee machine and a moka pot, so it’s best to buy ground coffee.

Usually, there is an emergency supply of salt, pepper, olive oil, and vinegar. If the previous guests haven’t left any behind, you can also find these at Bar La Plaza.

The sea : swimming and the sound of the waves

The temperature on the Canary Islands allows for year-round swimming, but as this is the Atlantic Ocean, always beware of the waves. With low tide it is easier to enter and exit the water.

The sea is very close by. You hear the sound of the waves.  Some people prefer ear plugs to sleep.

Hiking

The Rother walking guide of La Gomera exists in English, German and Dutch. You can buy it in specialised bookstores or online. The free app Maps.me (available in the Google Play Store) Komoot and all trails also has those hiking trails. The mountains can be misty and cold, so be sure to pack the proper equipment when preparing for a day hike (or even a shorter walk).

Sun Bathing

The housing comes with a rooftop sun deck equiped with sun loungers and parasols

In winter, we remove the parasols due to sudden gusts of wind. Please make sure to always store the parasols.

Money

ATM’s are available at San Sebastian, Vallehermoso or Valle Gran Rey. For comfort, be sure to bring some cash tot the island. As for safety issues: there are none to worry about in Alojera.
